Mars, the red planet, has been a target for scientists for years. NASA has been putting rovers on mars for almost three decades now. What we have learned from the rovers continues to help us understand this planet more every year. Some rovers have been on mars for years finding facts about this red planet. Some rovers like Spirit and Opportunity have helped us understand the Mars' surface. They discovered the reason Mars is red is because it has a chemical that causes rust on iron. You can also see this in St. George, Utah with the red rock they have there. This gives Mars its red look. These rovers have served us for years but the biggest rover yet, Curiosity, is bringing more info. This big rover is tasked with searching for signs of ancient life on Mars . The rovers also have found signs of water that might have covered the planet. Using satellites we have found that Mars' years are 643 days long. Despite the length of its years Mars has a day that is very close to ours. The days are one hour and forty minutes longer than Earths day of 24 hours. Thats pretty close! Mars also has two moons called Phobos and Deimos. Whitch, like our moon, lack atmospheres. They orbit mars in a funky stile however. Mars is not the biggest planet of the inner planets, it is only the second smallest planet in our solar system. About six Mars's could fit in Earth! Despite its size this planet is one of the most interesting planets in our solar system.
